MSG Networks Inc.

As Executive Vice President and General Counsel, Lawrence J. Burian oversees and directs the legal affairs for MSG Networks Inc., a media company with two regional sports and entertainment networks. MSG Networks owns and operates MSG Networks and MSG+, which telecast a wide range of sports content. This includes live local games and other programming of the New York Knicks, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres, as well as coverage of the New York Giants and Buffalo Bills.

At MSG Networks, Mr. Burian is responsible for advising our Board of Directors and executive management on all legal and strategic initiatives. He also manages the Company’s legal department, including all corporate, commercial, transactional, litigation, regulatory and day-to-day legal matters. In addition, he works closely with the NBA, NHL and other key strategic partners and stakeholders to advance the Company’s long-term interests. Mr. Burian also served as the secretary of MSG Networks from July 2015 to December 2018.

MSG Networks was formerly part of The Madison Square Garden Company (MSG) until a 2015 spin-off that made MSG Networks a pure-play media company and created a new publicly-traded sports and entertainment company. Mr. Burian played an integral role in that transaction, which included raising $1 billion in debt financing at MSG Networks.

Along with his role at MSG Networks, Mr. Burian serves as Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. (MSG Sports), a professional sports company that includes franchises that appear on MSG Networks, as well as other sports businesses. Prior to MSG Sports becoming a standalone company in April 2020, Mr. Burian served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of MSG, where he led the spin-off of MSG’s entertainment businesses from its sports business. Mr. Burian also previously served as the Secretary of MSG.

Over his tenure at MSG, Mr. Burian played an instrumental role in advancing the company’s growth. He helped spearhead a wide range of corporate initiatives that diversified and strengthened the Company’s portfolio of sports and entertainment assets, including with key acquisitions, such as Tao Group Hospitality, Boston Calling Events and Counter Logic Gaming; the formation of the Westchester Knicks franchise; and the pursuit of strategic partnerships with Azoff MSG Entertainment, Tribeca Enterprises and Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas. Mr. Burian also played a leadership role in several important initiatives involving MSG’s venues, including the three-year renovation of the Madison Square Garden arena; the Company’s purchase, reinvention and sale of the Forum in Inglewood, CA; and the Company’s land acquisitions, entitlements and construction plans for MSG Sphere in Las Vegas and London. Mr. Burian has also helped lead numerous other strategic initiatives and capital markets transactions, including the sale of MSG’s Fuse music television network; MSG’s spin-off from Cablevision Systems Corporation; and multiple strategic investments and debt financings. At MSG, Mr. Burian served on the Board of Directors of MSG’s many portfolio companies and played an integral role in their strategic planning and integration.

Before joining MSG, Mr. Burian worked at Cablevision Systems Corporation for 10 years, where he played an instrumental role in many of the company’s strategic transactions, including the acquisitions of Sundance Channel and Newsday Media Group, as well as the sale of the Fox Sports New England and Fox Sports Bay Area regional sports networks. As Senior Vice President, Associate General Counsel and Business Affairs, he provided legal and strategic counsel to the Company’s executive management. He also had oversight over various corporate legal matters, including real estate and employee benefits, and supported Cablevision’s PVI Virtual Media Services subsidiary and other strategic investments, including as a board member. Previously, Mr. Burian served as Vice President, Associate General Counsel, and as Assistant General Counsel.

Prior to Cablevision, Mr. Burian was an Associate with the law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell, specializing in mergers and acquisitions in both their New York and London offices. He also previously served as a law clerk for then Deputy President (and later President) Aharon Barak of the Supreme Court of Israel in Jerusalem.

Mr. Burian serves on the boards of several non-profit charities in support of important issues. These include the Garden of Dreams Foundation, a non-profit organization that works with MSG Networks and MSG Sports to assist young people in need; the American Society for Yad Vashem, a non-profit that works in partnership with Yad Vashem in Jerusalem to support global Holocaust remembrance, research and education; and ElderServe Health (“RiverSpring Health”) and the affiliated Hebrew Home at Riverdale, non-profits that provide a wide variety of care and service programs for older adults across the greater New York area.

Mr. Burian holds a doctorate of jurisprudence from Yale Law School and received his Bachelor of Arts in economics from Yeshiva University in New York, where he graduated summa cum laude. Mr. Burian lives in Westchester with his wife and four children.
